The water-cooled BMW R 1200 GS and R 1250 GS present a specific engineering challenge: the pillion seat moves forward and rearward, which rules out most rack designs. AltRider solved this by building a rack that mounts directly to the pillion seat keyed latch — no drilling, no brackets, no tools.
The cutouts are CNC-routered so edges are smooth and finished. Straps will not catch or fray against sharp corners. The cutouts also serve as multiple tie-down anchor points.
If you also run the AltRider Rear Rack, the two racks can be mounted simultaneously alongside the factory upper plastic rack with grab handles. That configuration requires hardware from the Rear Rack kit. Available in anodized silver or black.

The AltRider Pillion Rack replaces the passenger seat and adds a solid cargo platform to the water-cooled R 1200 GS and R 1250 GS. It mounts using the existing keyed pillion seat latch — no hardware, brackets, or tools required.
This rack is the only pillion rack available for these models. The water-cooled GS introduced a seat that moves forward and rearward, creating an engineering challenge that kept other manufacturers out. AltRider solved it.
Used alone, the rack adds useful rear cargo space. Paired with the AltRider Rear Luggage Rack, the two pieces connect flush to create over 3 square feet (0.29 square meters) of continuous, flat luggage surface. If you run both racks, an alternate configuration also allows simultaneous use of the factory plastic rack with grab handles, with the Rear Rack bolted to the factory rack in the upper position. Note that hardware from the Rear Rack kit is required for that configuration.
